The European championship in boxing will be held in Minsk from May, 30 to June 9, 2013. Appropriate agreement between the European Boxing Confederation and the Belarusian side was signed on February,14 in the town hall.The President of the European Boxing Confederation Franco Falchinelli, sports manager of European Boxing Confederation Alexander Egorov, head of the Minsk city executive committee Nikolai Ladutko, Minister for Sport and Tourism Alexander Shamko, first vice president of NOC Igor Rachkovski, chairman of the Belarusian Federation of Boxing (BSE) Dmitry Tikhomolov took part at the meeting. The sides finally signed a contract after the official part, exchange pleasantries and talk about the developing directions of the sport in Belarus.
Which metropolitan area will take the championship?
Franco Falchinelli chose the Palace of Sport after seeing the sports facilities of the capital and getting recommendations from the Belarusian side. "The main advantages of the Palace of Sport in comparison with Minsk-Arena are compact structure, convenient location and expected attendance", - explained Falchinelli's decision Deputy Chairman of the BSE.
Are we waiting to see the ”home“ medals from Belarusian sportsmen?
"As the head of the federation, it is important for me to win a medal at the European Championships, - says Dmitry Tikhomolov. - But now it is more important to choose guys who are our nearest reserve, to see how they will fight in extreme conditions of Euro -2013. We will work with them in the coming years. "
Speaking on the representation of Belarus at the European Championships, Tikhomolov said that it will be about 10 boxers in 10 weight categories, and 5 of them are able to win a medal. The coaching staff of the national team will choose the final squad of a team in the second half of April
Who will be the sponsors of the championship?
According to the chairman of the Belarusian Federation of boxing the championship's budget is one million euros. Ministry of Sports, the NOC, Minsk city executive committee, Belarusian Federation of Boxing, and Belarusian enterprises - BelAZ, Gomselmash, MTZ, MAZ and several private companies will be the sponsors of the competition.
