Drawn carpets of the region Paazerje near Vitsebsk were included in the list of historical and cultural heritage of Belarus. The decision was made at a meeting of the Belarusian Republican Scientific and Methodological Council on Historical and Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.
Drawn carpets - kind of folk art, traditions of which appeared in the 1920s and developed till the 1960s in the west part of the Vitsebsk region. Carpets in this region were a compulsory part of rural interiors.
The image on these carpets has usually plant-ornamental frames. A mandatory component of carpeted landscapes - water element. On the carpets there are a lot of plant-ornaments, images of historical and cultural monuments of the Vitsebsk region.
Drawn carpets in the Vitsebsk region began to revive in the 1980s. Modern carriers of tradition transmit their skills at master classes, because they believe in the value of their skills, which should be transferred to offspring.
In addition to drawn carpets, the list of elements of intangible cultural heritage includes 7 other folk traditions of Vitsebsk region. Together with drawn carpets in the list of historical and cultural values two elements were included: the rite of driving Kusta on the second day of the Trinity in the agrotown Lobcha of Luninets district, Brest region and making of Easter willows in Hrodna region.
