As the official site of the award reported, this year the Swedish Academy, which is entrusted to decide the winner in literature, has received 210 applications, and 36 names are nominated for the first time.


Currently, the British bookmaker company Ladbrokes, one of the largest in the world in its niche, accepts bets on who will be the next winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.


In the list of the most likely contenders for the prestigious prize is the Belarusian writer Sviatlana Alieksiyevich. She occupies the third place in the ranking of Ladbrokes, after the Japanese Haruki Murakami and Kenyan Ngugi Wa Thiongo.


For a series of her works, including "The Unwomanly Face of War", "Zinky Boys", "Enchanted with Death",  "The Last Witnesses: the Book of Unchildlike Stories" and "Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster", Sviatlana Alieksiyevich was included in the list of nominees for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013 and previously. In the past year the writer was awarded with the Peace Prize of the German Booksellers.

 

In the beginning of this year the next book of Alieksiyevich "Second-hand Time" was published, and it got high estimations of foreign literary critics.
