Azarenka defeated Williams in the final of the tournament in Cincinnati
Victoria Azarenka won the tournament in Cincinnati (USA) with a prize fund of 2,369,000 U.S. dollars. She beat Serena Williams who is the first in the WTA rankings - 2:6, 6:2, 7:6 (8:6).
Williams and Azarenka had variable benefit in the first and second sets and won it with the same score 6-2, but the main events happened in the third part of the final. Victoria led 4-2 but lost her serve and then two games in a row. When the score was 4:5 Victoria was able to make a breakpoint. After an exchange of games the meeting went into the tie-break. Azarenka started more confidently and led 4:2, then Williams won three points in a row, but made serious mistake which allowed Victoria to even the score - 5:5. Apparently, it was the most important moment of the final which demoralized Serena. At the same time Azarenka was able to gather the strength and confidently played in the end of the tie-break - 8:6.
During the game Victoria made 3 aces, 5 double and 30 unforced errors. The total duration of the final was 2 hours and 29 minutes.
On the way to the final Azarenka defeated Vania King, Magdalena Rybarikova, Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic.
