Belarus State University (BSU) entered the top 500 best universities in the world.
The ranking of world universities was published by British agency QS (THE - QS World University Rankings). According to the ranking BSU entered the top 500 best universities in the world first time and located in the group of universities occupying positions 491-500.
For the first time in history Belarusian university was placed so high in the world ranking.
British agency QS has ranked the world universities for 10 years. Only the first 700-800 universities (3% of the existing universities) are usually included in the ranking.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) got the first place in the ranking, University of Cambridge (UK) – the second, Imperial College London (UK) – the third.
In addition to BSU in QS ranking only Belarusian National Technical University (701+) is ranked.
QS ranking is based on analysis of data on the university and surveys of independent experts. Such factors as academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio are evaluated in the ranking.
It is reported that Belarus State University is usually represented in international rankings and is constantly mentioned among the world universities of "major league". According to the latest data (August 2014) of the Spanish rating agency Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, BSU took 673rd place in the world, and among the universities of the CIS countries, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
