Darya Domracheva has won the Olympic goldBelarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva has won the women’s 10km pursuit gold medal at Sochi Olympics.

The leader of Belarusian team started from the ninth position 32 seconds later Anastasia Kuzmina but to the first shooting Domracheva reduced the backlog in three times and came to the second place. She didn’t make misses at the first shooting and before the second shooting she caught Kuzmina. The second shooting was also excellent and Domracheva became the leader after it. She began to increase the gap. Before the third shooting the gap was half a minute. The Belarusian missed only once at the last standing stage but it allowed the opponents only slightly reduce the backlog. The great advantage let Domrachava pass the finish line with the Belarusian flag. The second place went to Tora Berger (Norway) and the third to Teja Gregorin from Slovenia.

This medal became the first for Belarusian team at the Olympics in Sochi and the second gold medal in the history of Belarus’s participation at the Winter Olympics. The first gold medal was won by the freestyle skier Alexei Grishin 4 years ago.

It is expected that Domracheva will also participate in four races: Individual, Mass Start, women and mixed relay.

Darya Domracheva won her first Olympic medal in Vancouver in 2010 when she got bronze in women’s 15km individual.
