Belarus could be the hobbits homeland acccording to the climate

Author: Newsmaker added 7-01-2014, 06:28

Dr. Lant who uses the pseudonym Radagast the Brown from Tolkien’s novel has compared the climate in the areas of ”The Hobbit“ and ”The Lord of the Rings“ with the real countries.

Dr. Lant from The University of Bristol (UK) argues that climate in Middle-earth reminds the climate of Western Europe and North Africa. At the same time climate in Mordor and Harad resembles Sahara’s climate with hot and dry weather and the little plants.

According to the scientist the Shire (the area settled exclusively by Hobbits including Bilbo and Frodo Baggins) is very similar to Belarus on climate and vegetation. The average temperature in the Shire is about 7 °C and average precipitation is near 61 cm.

The scientist also believes that the director of the trilogy ”The Lord of the Rings“ and ”The Hobbit“ chose not quite proper location for the filming of his films. The film was shot in New Zealand.

If you would like to see Sheer-like country, you are welcome to read about tourism in Belarus or book a tour.
