New Minister of Culture was appointed in Belarus.

The former Rector of the University of Culture was appointed as a Minister of Culture on December 10, 2012.

The new minister received a number of specific orders from the President. In particular, he should give consideration to the development of local cultural institutions, as well as to finish the implementation of construction projects - the reconstruction of the Kupala Theatre and the building of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War.

Boris Svetlov was born in 1958 in Minsk. In 1980 he graduated from the Belarusian State University named after Lenin.

In the years 1980-1989 he was a senior laboratory assistant, junior research fellow of the Institute of Arts, Ethnography and Folklore of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In 1989-1990 he was a member of the editorial board of the arts of the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR. In 1990-1991 he is assistant to the Minister of Culture of the BSSR.

In 1991-1994 Boris Svetlov was a deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.

From May 1994 to December 1994 he was a Head of cinema and art department in the Ministry of Culture and print of the Republic of Belarus.
From January 1995 to August 1995 he was a deputy Director of the Finance and Investment Company "Finance and assets."

In 1995-1998 he was a deputy director, director of the Fond of support of the Belarusian culture.

In the period 1998-2003 Boris Svetlov was a head Cinema products’ department, head of the department of information, the deputy director of the State Institution "The National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus."

In 2003-2008 he was the rector of the private educational institution "The Institute for Parliamentary and entrepreneurship."

In 2008-2012 he was the rector of the educational establishment "Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts."

In December 2012, he was appointed as a Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.
