The Population of Belarus Decreased by 770 Thousand People During 20 Years

During the last 20 years the population of Belarus decreased by 770 000 people (7.5%).According to the representative of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus Tatsiana Migal, as of the date of January, 1, 2012 the population of the republic counted 9 million 465.1 thousand inhabitants. The representative of the Ministry of Health noted that Belarus entered the third millennium in difficult demographic situation facing such occurrences as death rate exceeding birth rate, progressing population ageing, adverse sex- and age-related structure, low standard of health within the population of reproductive age.
Just like in other European countries the Belarusian population undergoes aging (mostly because of low birth rate). For instance, in 1991 share of people aged older that able to work age made up 19.5%, while in 2011 same rate reached 23%.
