Soutine and Chagall Painting were sold at Christie's for 13 and 18 million dollars

Chaim Soutine's “Le petit pâtissier” (“The little confectioner”) was sold at Christie's for $ 18 million. The cost of the picture set a new world auction record for this painter.
Chaim Soutine was a French artist of Belarusian origin who made a major contribution to the expressionist movement while living in Paris.
“Le petit pâtissier” was the main lot at Christie's on May, 8. Estimation of this picture was about 16-22 million. It was written in the late 1920s and was the part of the series of Parisian workers' portraits. The previous auction record price for Soutine's paintings (“Portrait of the Man in a red scarf”) was $ 17.2 million, it was installed in 2007.
Marc Chagall' painting “Les Trois Acrobates” ("Three acrobats") was also exhibited. With the estimation of 6-9 million it was sold for $ 13 million, becoming the second most expensive lot at Christie's on May, 8.
